This is something I really have to work on. GAH for one thing I CAN'T COOK. I know what you are thinking.
you're like "That's silly,.get a book dude. "
I'm all like "NUH HUH"
and you're like "UM YES"
and I'm like "I can't hold a knife or pots and pans"
and your like "HA HA HA make me feel bad"
anyway my nutrition pretty much consists of pasta and some small amount of meat and some pasta, or rice, or something wrapped in a taco. As much vegatables as I can muster. I get home made granola instead of eating cereals. I'm taking potassium since my waters all out of wack.
I am switching to coffee from diet drinks. and thats about it.
I eat simply. For dessert type stuff usually some slowchurned (whatever that means) ice cream. I guess that's loaded with splenda but i have to conquer diet pepsi before I attack the icecream.
I take a lot of medicine. There's got to be some kind of nutrition in there.
I am currently trying to figure out how I can eat a lot of spirolina from Christopher Hills, but they don't seem to be entirely up and running. I'd be sad if they were having problems ecause he ws my hero.

Re: My Nutrition by Langston Henry
Mon, November 21, 2005 - 6:07 PMIf you have insurance, I recommend asking your doctor for a referral to a nutritionist if it is covered.
One thing that is common to all books I have read is a recommendation that people with Lupus avoid vegetables in the nightshade family (peppers, tomatoes, eggplant, potatoes) and also to avoid alcohol, dairy, caffeine and sugar.
You might talk to a nutritionist about yeast overgrowth syndrome - it is common with people who have lupus because the drugs (antibiotics, prednisone) tend to kill off the friendly critters in your body, allowing the not so nice critters to run amok.
Also ask about food sensitivities -- for example, dairy definitely aggravates my RA. If you get a nutritionist to help you out with an elimination diet, you will have to give up a lot of things in the short term but you may discover certain foods trigger symptoms more frequently when you reintroduce them after abstaining for a while.
yes, doing this around holidays is probably not advised. -

Re: My Nutrition by Langston Henry
Mon, November 21, 2005 - 10:18 PMThanks! so much. I am reading your dietary posts with great interest and I will tell you why. I have already eliminated a lot of foods from my life yet I still feel that there are dietary things which are irritating me. Since I have to assume that if something dietary is irritating me it is probably something I like and eat alot of. DAMN YOU FOOD!
I am going to Mayo clinic on Dec. 20 where I really feel like I am getting the best care possible. I will get a prescription for a nutritionist.
I think the Mayo Clinic is doing a good job. That is despite the fact that the operation was largely a failure. At least I can get a coordinated response from a group of specialists who are on a salary. After their direction I can come back to the island and have my therapy more directed. Any serious therapy is two hours from here.
I will have no problem eating a different food or largely just one food if it will help. The only problem I have is caffeine with is the only only dependable and easy to regulate analgesic that I can depend on. Other than that I have no fear of orthodoxy.
I know that spiritual orthodoxy and discipline are the things I have to instill myself with to maintain my mortal frame now.
The theory that is working for me is that discipline and orthodoxy is what cures the spiritual person despite faith. Faith is what keeps that person on track and believing in the good results and faith itself is "a cure in and of itself" because faith makes disease irrelevant. But when you are looking for a cure, orthodoxy and discipline to some extent make faith irrelevant.
So in my world adopting the best diet and nutrition for myself is key and after that I am more free meet whatever dour god visited this dilemma on me on more equal terms. -

Mon, November 21, 2005 - 10:22 PMAlso ask about acid v. alkaline foods - and remember, if you can minimize symptoms with diet, you won't *need* the caffeine as much!
As an analgesic, really? -

Re: My Nutrition by Langston Henry
Mon, November 21, 2005 - 10:44 PMIt totally kills the random pain that sits at
a low level at all times. My hands are in constant
pain. Everything else aches.
I have gone completely off it for a long stretch so
its not some kind of bounce back caffiene addiction
pain. It's legitimate pain and coffee or cola relieves it.
The staying awake quality is an unfortunate side
effect for me.
There is no other general cure. Really tylenol or
something like celebrex attack the big pain but until
you get to morphine nothing takes this smaller pain away like coffee.
Now that I am taking TWO Nexium purple pills every
day I am free to drink coffee which cures my pain and
the hottest habanero sauces I can find which stimulate
my esophagus and helps with the motility.
The only reason I got hooked on diet soda was i couldnt
take the coffee reflux any more. That and coffee culture
that is so out of control keeping supplied with decent coffee throughout the day is a clusterfuck. AND I LIVE ON AN ISLAND.
